Simon signs contract banning further sperm donation

Mass donor Simon signed a contract with the Donorkind Foundation banning him from donating sperm, contacting new prospective parents to offer a donation and allowing stored sperm at clinics to be destroyed. The agreement carries confidential financial penalties if he breaches it. Simon, 44, said he had fathered 199 children and had misled prospective parents about the number of children he had conceived. He had donated through several sperm banks and independently approached prospective mothers online, sometimes sending sexually suggestive messages.
The ban has an exception for a parent who already has a child conceived with Simon and had previously agreed in writing that he could donate for another child. In those cases, Simon must provide the child’s sex, year of birth and province to the foundation. The foundation’s lawyer said the exception was needed to honor existing agreements and that only a small number of families were expected to qualify. The settlement does not include compensation for alleged victims; the foundation said it would first assess the damage with the mothers and could take the matter to court if Simon did not accept responsibility.
