A gunman opened fire from a car in central Krakow, killing six people—four women and two men—and injuring 15 others, according to the account. The injured included coachmen, two police officers and five foreigners. One officer was in critical condition, while the suspected shooter, identified in Polish media as 24-year-old Michal O., was also in critical condition after a gunfight with police. The area remained sealed off and the city was observing a period of mourning until Wednesday.
The motive remained unclear. Interior Minister Kierwinski said O. was probably influenced by far-right ideologies and described him as an ultranationalist. Police were investigating whether the case could be treated as terrorism and said O. could not yet be questioned because of his condition. A search of the family home in Ostrowiec Swietokrzyski found three dead people, later confirmed by police as O.’s parents and sister. Polish media reported that O. and his father had gun licences and that weapons and the car used in the attack were registered to the father.
