Shell’s third-quarter profit and share buyback

Shell reported third-quarter profit of $10.8 billion, or €9.7 billion, about double the level a year earlier, as higher oil and gas prices lifted earnings. The reports linked the higher prices to the continuing war in the Middle East.

The company increased its share-buyback programme for the quarter from $3 billion to $5 billion. One report said revenue was disappointing and that the profit exceeded analysts’ expectations.
