SGP and JA21 submitted a bill to the House of Representatives aimed at ending amplified calls to prayer from mosques. The parties said they consider the current exceptional position for such calls unjustifiable and want to remove what they describe as Islam’s preferential position. The proposal has drawn legal criticism from the Council of State, but SGP and JA21 are continuing with it.
