Truck drivers are reportedly facing a severe shortage of parking spaces, resulting in discomfort, nuisance and dangerous situations. Some parking areas lack toilets, showers and catering, leaving drivers to manage without basic facilities, including by using microwaves in their cabins.

EUR 43 million is due to be made available from next year to address the problem, but it remains uncertain whether that will be enough.
