Kenyan cult leader Paul Mackenzie was sentenced to 200 years in prison for the murders of 190 children and one adult in Shakahola. The court found that he had ordered followers of Good News International Ministries to starve themselves and their children in the belief that they would meet Jesus.
A single report said the prosecution had sought the death penalty, which was not imposed. It also reported that Mackenzie showed no emotion as Judge Diana Kavedza-Mochache delivered the sentence in a temporary tent court.
