Sentencing for fatal collision in Geldrop

A 26-year-old man from Geldrop was sentenced to two years in prison and barred from driving for five years for causing a fatal collision with a 52-year-old cyclist in Geldrop in June 2025. He drove an Audi Q2 through a built-up area at speeds of up to 126 km/h, overtaking vehicles across the centre line and through lanes for turning traffic before hitting the cyclist at a crossing point.
The court found that he had taken unacceptable risks and shown life-threatening driving behaviour. Although he braked, he was still travelling at 89 km/h at the moment of impact. The cyclist died from his injuries four weeks later. The man had said he could not remember his driving behaviour; the court did not find that credible.
