Sentence for dangerous driving in fatal Zaandam crash
◆2 sources
A 21-year-old man from Purmerend was sentenced to 60 hours of community service and a two-month driving ban for dangerous driving during a traffic dispute on the A7 in Zaandam in March 2025. A 27-year-old man from Zaanstad died after losing control of his Mercedes and crashing while avoiding the other driver's brief braking manoeuvre.
The court imposed the sentence sought by prosecutors. Prosecutors said the braking created a dangerous situation but did not meet the legal threshold for holding the man criminally responsible for the death, which requires seriously careless driving.
