Security experts and politicians from both the right and the left reportedly warned against a government led by Die Linke in Berlin. The party won a major victory in the German capital the previous month and was alleged to have contacts with left-wing extremist and Islamist circles as well as the criminal underworld. Security expert Klaus Nachigall described this as a security risk for Berlin residents.
