Sanrio, the Japanese company behind Hello Kitty, apologized and ended its commercial collaboration with the Japanese spy series Vivant after criticism from Chinese state media. The media accused the series of deliberately fostering suspicions toward China.

Sanrio had released merchandise depicting characters including Hello Kitty in the style of the series and has stopped working with Vivant.
