Sand replenishment at the Brouwersdam beach

The beach at the Brouwersdam on Goeree-Overflakkee has been eroding by 6 to 18 metres a year, according to the reports. Beach operators had complained about the loss of sand, and the coast near the lighthouse was considered at risk. Rijkswaterstaat is depositing 880,000 cubic metres of new sand there this month.

The sand replenishment is not considered a definitive solution. Rijkswaterstaat wants to experiment with ways to retain the sand naturally.
