The Eindhoven medical technology company Salvia BioElectronics is launching a study in the United States of its MySalvia system, a potential treatment for adults with difficult-to-treat migraine. About 150 people are expected to take part at more than 20 hospitals and clinics. The study will assess the treatment’s safety and effectiveness and builds on earlier research in Europe.
The system consists of two thin implants placed under the skin of the forehead and the back of the head. They target nerves involved in migraine, and patients activate the treatment with a portable device. The system has not been approved for commercial use, and its safety and effectiveness are still being investigated.
