Sakshi Kannan, 33, died of cardiac arrest while giving birth to her second daughter, according to the account. Before her pregnancy, she had been conducting doctoral research on osteoarthritis at the University of Twente.

More than a year and a half after her death, the university awarded her PhD posthumously.
