Ronald Plasterk said that plans to anchor a report by the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) on academic freedom in the Constitution should be abandoned. The KNAW is described as both a society of leading scientific researchers and an institution that manages scientific institutes, including the Institute for War Documentation, the Meertens Institute, the Netherlands Institute for Neuroscience and the Hubrecht Institute.
