Roadworks disrupt Wintelre main street

The Willibrordusstraat, the main road through Wintelre, has been undergoing major work since May. The sewer is being replaced and the municipality of Eersel is making changes intended to improve safety, including traffic barriers and a planned speed limit of 30 kilometres per hour. The work is expected to be completed by the end of May 2027, with diversions changing as construction progresses.

The works have made the supermarket, bakery and car garage on the street difficult to reach, and the supermarket was reportedly completely inaccessible for several days during the week. Local businesses say they are losing customers and traffic, while residents have faced changing routes and longer walks. A temporary route to the supermarket has been marked through the fields, and residents and business owners say they expect the finished street to be an improvement.
