Richard Groenendijk described how he supported his close friend Fred van Leer during difficult periods of depression. Van Leer, 50, had previously written openly about his struggle in the bestseller *Nothing Is as It Seems*.

A fourth edition of the book was published with new chapters in which Groenendijk, 54, also discussed his experiences of seeing Van Leer at his most difficult moments.
