Dutch actor, television maker and writer Maarten Spanjer died at the age of 73 in Ouderkerk aan de Amstel. His partner, Monique Waterham, confirmed his death. He had been diagnosed with bladder and prostate cancer in 2025; a single report said his condition deteriorated rapidly after new metastases were found and that he died in a hospice. Spanjer was known for the film Spetters and for presenting Taxi, in which he spoke with passengers while posing as a taxi driver. He had also recently written columns about his illness. A report said plans are in place to publish columns he wrote before his death that have not yet appeared.
