Restaurant permit upheld in Almere Nobelhorst

A restaurant in Almere Nobelhorst was allowed to go ahead after the municipality’s objections committee advised against withdrawing or changing its permit. Neighbors had submitted 84 complaints, saying the building was much larger than originally indicated and could cause traffic and parking problems in the small, green De Werf district. The building was reported to be 417 square meters, compared with 227 square meters in the original plans. Twenty-three complaints were not assessed because the applicants lived too far away, while the committee found the remaining objections insufficient. It did not expect a significant increase in traffic and said the building’s height, about 6.5 meters, was within the area’s permitted limit of 16 meters.

The municipality said it would follow the committee’s advice. Residents can appeal, and according to entrepreneur Yuk-Ha Tang they have until 9 December to do so, meaning the plans remain on hold until then. Tang has also applied separately for a permit for a terrace and jetty; residents can object to that application if it is granted.
