Relocation talks for ill Lelystad entrepreneur remain unresolved

Lelystad entrepreneur René Snijers has been in uncertainty for months over the planned use of Lelystad Airport by F-35 fighter jets. Snijers owns Snijers Gardens & Paddingen on the Talingweg, near the airport, and says he must relocate because of the plans. He says the Ministry of Defence has not fulfilled its promises of a swift process and appropriate compensation. The company has operated at the site since 2020 on about 5,000 square metres, with a stone shop and a show garden, on rented land and premises. Snijers became seriously ill in September 2024 with a rare autoimmune disease. The Ministry of Defence says a solution is being developed and that an independent expert must determine the appropriate compensation.
