The Sexual Abuse Hotline for Reformed Churches had received 180 notifications of sexual abuse in 2026, more than ever before. The figures were discussed in connection with an abuse case in the Reformed Church in Elspeet and with the work of coordinator Bertine de Wit, who said that abuse affects not only victims but the wider municipality as well.

Other church hotlines have also seen their numbers rise for years. The increase was described as an indication that victims are finding their way to the hotlines, provided churches allow them to do their work.
