Daan Woudhuysen, manager of the Boven 't Y shopping centre, has started handing out red cards to people who cycle in the pedestrian area. He said the centre had 350,000 more visitors than the previous year and that cycling there had become unsafe because of the crowds. People who walk alongside their bicycles receive green thumbs instead.

Shopkeepers reportedly support the action, particularly because of nuisance caused by fatbikes. Woudhuysen said the cards were intended to signal the rules, although some recipients responded with negative comments.
