The remains of the medieval Bulgarian ruler Samuel were reportedly reburied in a basilica in Sofia after being returned from Greece. President Rumen Radev, Patriarch Daniil and thousands of others were said to have attended the ceremony. Samuel, who was born around 950, ruled Bulgaria during a period when it controlled large parts of the Balkans. He was defeated by the Byzantine Empire in 1014 and was buried on an island in the area where Albania, Greece and North Macedonia meet. Greek archaeologists recovered his remains there in the 1960s, according to the account.
