Readers called for tougher action against dangerous driving

Readers responding to the Day’s Statement expressed opposing views on the tripling of penalties for late payment of fines. Some called for the increase to be scrapped, while another argued that people who do not pay are making a choice and that the increase should remain.

There was broad support for tougher action against dangerous driving: nine in ten participants wanted a stricter approach to urban racing, and repeated offenders were said to need to lose their driving licences more quickly.
