Amsterdam municipality plans to raise the cycle path along the Molukkenstraat in Amsterdam-Oost, where roots from water cypresses have pushed up the road surface. The main roots will not be removed because doing so could make the trees unstable.

The work is expected to be a temporary solution, as the roots may again lift the surface within a few years. The municipality is also considering a longer-term solution, including replacing the water cypresses with species better suited to Amsterdam’s street profile and soil conditions.
