More than 400 French educational institutions were due to see protests on Monday, according to the Education Ministry. Four to five hundred secondary schools or other sites were fully or partly closed after violent unrest in and around schools the previous week. The closures affected sites where security could not be guaranteed or where premises had been heavily damaged.
