Prosecutors seek prison term and TBS order over Osdorp parking garage rape

Prosecutors sought a four-year prison sentence and a TBS order with compulsory treatment for a 33-year-old man who confessed to raping a woman in the parking garage of her apartment complex in Amsterdam-Osdorp on 16 May last year. The woman had just secured her daughter in a car seat and placed a buggy in the boot when, according to prosecutors, he overpowered and raped her. He fled after a neighbour arrived and called out to the victim, prosecutors said.

Police identified the suspect using security-camera footage and arrested him the following day, according to prosecutors. He said supernatural beings known as jinns had directed him and that he had entered the garage to watch pornography, an account prosecutors rejected. Prosecutors also suspect him of attempted rape involving the same victim, allegedly shortly before or after the rape.
