A 45-year-old man from Nijmegen is being prosecuted over the fireworks incident in which 16-year-old Shane died shortly after the turn of the year. The Public Prosecution Service suspects him of deliberately causing an explosion that killed someone.

Shane’s friends described him as sociable, cheerful and always there for the people around him. They remembered the 16-year-old in a programme that was published online on Monday, saying he had thought he would not live past 18.
