North Holland’s provincial executive asked Provincial States to allocate €15 million to further develop a proposed wide underpass for the N247 at Broek in Waterland and to reserve €100 million for its eventual construction. Provincial States has yet to decide on the proposal.

Most parties had been positive about the underpass in an earlier consultation. Supporters said it would improve traffic flow between Amsterdam, Monnickendam and Edam-Volendam, increase safety and improve liveability in the village. The project’s total cost is currently estimated at €318 million.
