The cabinet proposed ending the automatic assignment of the father’s surname to a child of married parents when the parents cannot agree on a surname. The proposal implements an adopted motion by PRO and D66.

The legislative proposal is due to be opened for consultation in January, allowing interested parties to respond before it is submitted.
