A pro-democracy politician and activist in Macau was sentenced to 12.5 years in prison under the territory’s national security law. The case was described as the first conviction under that law of a pro-democracy activist in Macau.
Human rights organisations said the conviction was a sign of increasing Chinese repression in the special administrative regions.
