Prosecutors sought a prison sentence for a 58-year-old hairdresser from Nijverdal accused of attacking his then wife at their joint barbershop last November. He allegedly grabbed her by the throat and tried to strangle her; she said she thought her larynx had broken.

The man has been held for nearly a year on suspicion of attempted manslaughter. The reports did not state the length of the prison sentence sought.
