Primož Roglič wins European time trial championship

Slovenian cyclist Primož Roglič won the European time trial championship on home roads, finishing in Šenčur after a course of about 22 kilometres. The 36-year-old finished ahead of France’s Bruno Armirail and Maxime Decomble, who took silver and bronze respectively. One report put Roglič’s winning margin over Armirail at six seconds and Decomble’s deficit at 28 seconds. Dutch rider Sjoerd Bax finished 23rd, according to one report.

A Dutch rider was reported to be part of a five-rider leading group during the European road race in and around Ljubljana, Slovenia. Remco Evenepoel was identified as the leading favourite and was reported to be chasing the European title. The finish was expected at around 17:00.

Remco Evenepoel won the European road cycling title in Slovenia after beating Giulio Ciccone in a two-man sprint decided by a photo finish. Christian Scaroni finished third, about a minute behind. The reported margin between Evenepoel and Ciccone was 0.0028 seconds. Ciccone later questioned the clarity and validity of the photo-finish result. The European cycling union, UEC, defended the system, describing it as extremely precise. Evenepoel remains the official European champion.
