Power outage affects eleven homes in Volendam

Eleven homes in Volendam have been without electricity since the previous night after smoke emerged from a meter cabinet at a house on Kapelaan Ruiterstraat. The fire department said there was no fire, but reports of a burning smell led to the precautionary evacuation of 50 homes on Kapelaan Ruiterstraat, Prinses Beatrixstraat and Prinses Marijkestraat. Almost all residents later returned; a few stayed with family.

Liander said a damaged connection cable, caused by the incident in the meter cabinet, was responsible for the outage. Measurement specialists were investigating how to repair it, but it was not yet known when power would be restored to the eleven homes.
