Nature restoration plan for permits in the Port of Rotterdam
◆4 sources
The government plans to provide €50 million for nature restoration in dune areas around the Port of Rotterdam, aiming to allow nature permits for port projects to be issued again from the start of 2027. The measures include increasing rabbit populations, tackling invasive plants and insects, and limiting cyclists and walkers along the coast. The plan is intended to end the nitrogen-related permit freeze affecting companies seeking to establish themselves in the port, expand facilities or make them more sustainable. The province is expected to be able to issue permits again once the restoration measures are funded and implemented.
