Possible exceptions to the fireworks ban in three Brabant municipalities

Private individuals will be prohibited from setting off fireworks in 51 Brabant municipalities when the new national fireworks ban takes effect at the next New Year. Geertruidenberg, Laarbeek and Gemert-Bakel are open to initiatives from neighbourhoods or villages, while Someren and Deurne have not yet decided.

In Geertruidenberg, the 9 October deadline for associations to apply for an exemption has passed, and no applications were received, so no exemptions will be granted. Associations in Laarbeek and Gemert-Bakel can still apply before 1 November and must submit a safety plan, specify the amount of fireworks and take out insurance. Other municipalities have opted for a total ban, citing limited enforcement capacity and insufficient time to prepare exemptions. Some said they may reconsider the arrangements after the next New Year.
