A ban on heavy compressed-air rifles is being considered in the Netherlands. Such rifles, with which a coin can reportedly be hit from 100 metres, can currently be bought without a permit. The proposed ban is linked to an alleged threat involving extremists, attributed to the AIVD. The industry disputes that threat and says sport shooters are not advancing the issue in political circles.
