Police sharing activists’ data with Hanos

Police apologized after wrongly providing Hanos, a catering wholesaler in Nieuwegein, with the personal data of seven animal-rights activists. The activists had demonstrated at the business on 15 July against its sale of foie gras and were later given two-year bans by Hanos. Police said there was no adequate legal basis for sharing their names and addresses, asked Hanos to delete the data and all copies, and are investigating internally why it was passed on.

The activists had identified themselves to police after the demonstration but said they had not consented to their details being shared. Police had initially told them in writing that their data had not been provided to Hanos.
