Rutten is set to expand after about 20 years, with 47 properties planned east of the village. The municipality of Noordoostpolder says 34 of them will be in the affordable category, intended for people with up to a middle income. The plans include detached houses, semi-detached houses, terraced houses and a project developed through Collective Private Commissioning (CPO). Discussions between the municipality, the Government Real Estate Agency and the landlord have been completed. The municipality says an agreement on the land with the Government Real Estate Agency is expected in October. Affordable housing is currently defined as homes priced up to €420,000 for owner-occupied properties and social rental homes with a maximum monthly rent of €932.93.
