A foundation formed by residents and businesses presented plans to prevent the closure of the Schoorlse Duinen outdoor centre. It wants to buy the building from Staatsbosbeheer and turn it into Noord-Holland’s nature education centre, with a seasonal interactive exhibition, a regional tourist office, more activities, and increased income from the shop and catering facilities. About 20,000 people signed a petition against the proposed closure.
