Plan for circular straw homes in IJmond
◆1 source
Annabel Thomas of Collective Circular is developing a sketch design for homes in the IJmond made largely from local residual materials, including clay, seaweed fibres, plant material, recycled windows, concrete slabs, wood and straw. The project is intended to explore more sustainable construction and is being developed with people involved in the area. It is aimed at a housing cooperative in Wijk aan Zee, which wants to address population ageing and the shortage of affordable housing, and includes a proposed design for the Aardenburg campsite in Wijk aan Zee.
The plan remains exploratory. The housing cooperative has not yet been formally established, and it is uncertain whether the site will become available or whether the homes can be built. Costs, funding, agreements, planning rules and the nitrogen issue still need to be addressed. The sketch design is due to be presented on 16 November at Collective Circular in Beverwijk.
