The planned asylum reception centre between the Randweg and the N201 in Amstelveen-Zuid has been abandoned, according to the account. The location lies near the border with Uithoorn and had led to opposition from residents and disagreement between the two municipalities. Uithoorn alderman José De Robles had said the site was far from Amstelveen’s facilities but close to those in Uithoorn.

The Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA) announced in June that the site did not meet the minimum conditions for safe and efficient reception. The decision was supported by the minister. Amstelveen is continuing to consider an alternative location for asylum seekers.
