Alies Heida, 58, from Bourtange has started a petition against new safety requirements that she fears could threaten large events at the fortress. She said festivals such as Magisch Samhain and Christmas markets face stricter rules, higher costs and lengthy licensing procedures.

Heida said the measures could endanger the future of these events and urged action to prevent the fortress from “bleeding to death.”
