The municipality of Terneuzen granted a permit for an asylum seekers centre in a former Neckermann building at the Handelspoort business park. The planned regional reception centre is intended to accommodate up to 200 asylum seekers.

A narrow majority of the municipal council approved the plan last month. During the previous council term, a majority had advised against it.
