Passenger ship De Festijn freed from sandbank near Breskens

Passenger ship De Festijn was freed from a sandbank off the coast of Zeeuws-Vlaanderen at high tide around midnight and returned safely to the port of Breskens. It had run aground the previous afternoon. The vessel had 75 people aboard, including five crew members, who were evacuated by Royal Netherlands Sea Rescue Institution lifeboats. A helicopter was also deployed but was not needed. One report noted that many passengers were elderly and that this was taken into account during the rescue.
