Residents of the new municipality of Hilversum were due to vote on 18 November for the council formed after the merger with Wijdemeren. Twenty parties were contesting seats, including two created after the merger plans. The municipality had provided an online voting aid to help residents choose among the parties.
Local One was formed from two Wijdemeren-based parties and one Hilversum party. Its leader, Margriet Rademaker, said the party aimed to represent both the villages and Hilversum. The New Village Party for Dorp, led by Diederick Volkers, had initially opposed the merger but now sought to preserve the villages’ identities, including through village councils and regular consultation hours with the alderman. Volkers also referred to tensions in Loosdrecht over a proposed emergency shelter for asylum seekers as an example of the distance between residents and the municipal administration.
