Palestinian flag raised at Reichstag building

A 22-year-old man climbed nearly 30 metres up a flagpole at Berlin’s Reichstag building at about 11:30 and replaced the six-by-ten-metre German Flag of Unity with a Palestinian flag. Two other men, aged 20 and 32, were involved at ground level. Police arrested the 22-year-old and the 20-year-old and detained the 32-year-old, while the two men on the ground were later banned from the site. The action was filmed and livestreamed on TikTok. The climber came down at about 12:30, and emergency services removed the Palestinian flag.

The action was claimed by the group Peacefully against Genocide. Berlin Mayor Kai Wegner condemned it, saying that removing the flag and raising the Palestinian flag showed contempt for democracy. He described the incident, which took place on the eve of 9 November, as unacceptable.
