Overijssel declines to apologise over Almelo-De Haandrik Canal damage

The province of Overijssel declined to apologise, despite advice from the National Ombudsman, to residents affected by problems following work on the Almelo-De Haandrik Canal between 2011 and 2016. More than 400 homes experienced subsidence after the waterway works.
The province said residents had little need for an apology and primarily wanted their damage claims to be handled properly.
