One-way shipping restriction on the Upper IJssel lifted

Rijkswaterstaat lifted the one-way restriction for shipping on the Upper IJssel after recent rain raised water levels. Ships can again sail in both directions between the IJsselkop and Zutphen, including the Arnhem–Zutphen stretch.

The restriction had been in force since 14 October because low water levels made it unsafe for vessels to pass each other; shipping was then permitted upstream only from Zutphen to Arnhem. Rijkswaterstaat said the required minimum depth of 1.45 metres has now been reached, but continues to monitor water levels and may reintroduce measures if they fall again.
