◆3 sources
NXP Semiconductors, the Eindhoven-based chipmaker, reported third-quarter revenue of nearly $3.8 billion, up 19% from a year earlier and 8% from the previous quarter. Net profit was nearly $1.1 billion, more than a third higher than a year earlier and 16% above the preceding quarter. The company said growth was driven by continued momentum in data-centre infrastructure.
Automotive revenue, NXP's largest division, rose 13% year on year to nearly $2.1 billion, while communications-infrastructure revenue increased by more than half to $503 million. NXP forecast fourth-quarter revenue of about $3.85 billion, around 15% higher than a year earlier but slightly below analysts' average expectation; its shares fell about 7% in after-hours Wall Street trading.
