Nurcan Tekoglu spoke about her husband Hayri’s dementia, saying the subject remains difficult to discuss in Turkish circles. She said she had nearly decided to care for him herself and wanted to encourage others in the Turkish community to talk about the issue.

Tekoglu said she could not provide the level of care he is receiving now and stressed that she was not ashamed of his condition.
